Allen Magazine Issue one

Allen Issue One

Issue one of Allen Magazine is based on nine objects selected by Jan Tschichold that he believed should be celebrated; these included the electric light bulb, gramophone records & the telephone. Above are some of my photographs for this first issue.

Letterpress experiments

Here are some further experiments in letterpress for issue two of Allen Magazine.

Letterpress

Here are some of my experiments in letterpress for my publication 'Allen Magazine', in a session with John Walsh. Allen Magazine looks at the everyday, issue one & two investigate ordinary objects that are worth celebrating. The name for the magazine derived from the idea of creating a personality for the publication as well as portraying the content of the everyday and the normal. Allen is quite a popular, average name, however, it apparently comes from the ancient Germanic work for 'precious', which emphasizes the concept that although the publication is celebrating ordinary objects, they are also precious, unique and wonderful. I tried to capture some of the individuality and personality of the publication in the letterpress experiments.
